In this insightful episode, Mike Day sits down with Oliver Jones of H&Z Consulting to explore how third party risk management (TPRM) has evolved from a subset of procurement into a discipline of its own. With nearly two decades in procurement and extensive experience leading TPRM initiatives across financial services, Oliver brings both clarity and nuance to the conversation.
Together, they dive into the practical and strategic tensions between procurement and TPRM—especially in resource-constrained, compliance-driven environments. From navigating regulatory expectations to building digital ecosystems and redefining what "resilience" really means, this episode offers critical insights for third-party professionals working to align structure, process, and impact.
Mike is Head of TPRM at MUFG looking at developing and expanding the TPRM function across EMEA and linking up with counterparts in the US and Asia. Prior to MUFG Mike implemented the TPM framework at RSA Insurance in 2020, upgrading it for SS2/21 requirements in 2022 Mike has held senior IT Procurement and Third Party Risk roles across a number of sectors including roles at Zurich Insurance, EY, Morgan Stanley, Inmarsat, O2 and the NHS. He was the European lead for setting up the global Morgan Stanley TPRM function in 2009/10 Mike is also the host of the Third Party Therapy podcast which seeks to open up the TPRM conversation across industries and make it more accessible to everyone.
